Walmart Funded Savings Optimization: Get Paid More While Walmart Keeps the Discount

When Walmart funds a discount on your product, it pays you the gap up to a limit it never publishes. The Walmart Funded Savings Optimization add-on finds that limit and keeps your price right under it — more money per sale, same price for your customers.

Walmart Funded Savings Optimization

When Walmart funds a discount on your product, it pays you the gap between your price and the lower price your customers see — up to a limit it never publishes. Flashpricer finds that limit and keeps your price right under it: you're paid more on every sale, and your customers pay exactly the same.

● Same price for your customers● More money per sale● Fully automatic● Per Walmart channel

With Walmart Funded Savings, Walmart lowers the price shoppers see on Walmart.com and covers the difference itself, so your sale is still settled at the price you set. (New to it? Start with Why is my Walmart price below my minimum?)

What most sellers don't know: Walmart keeps funding the discount when you raise your price — up to a point. Below that point, every extra cent on your price is paid by Walmart, not by your customer. The Walmart Funded Savings Optimization add-on finds that point for you, product by product, and holds it.

The money left on the table

Here is a real-looking example: Walmart funds a $2.00 discount on a product you sell at $18.99.

+$0.90 per sale

Your customer sees the same $16.99, so your conversion and your Buy Box odds don't move. The extra $0.90 comes from Walmart, on every sale. At 42 sales a month, that is +$37.80 a month — +$453.60 a year — on a single product.

i

Every product has its own limit, and it moves. Walmart never publishes how far it keeps funding, and the limit changes over time. That's why it has to be found by testing — and re-checked regularly.

How the optimizer finds your limit

The optimizer runs a short, careful search on each funded product. Here is one, test by test:

$18.99Start. Walmart funds the discount at your current price.Today
$19.29Test +$0.30. The customer still sees $16.99.Funded
$19.89Bigger step. Still funded — the steps grow while Walmart keeps paying.Funded
$21.09Too high. Walmart stops funding — the price goes back to $19.89 within a couple of minutes.Refused
…Narrowing down. Halfway tests between the last funded and the first refused price, to the cent.Funded / refused
$19.89Held at the highest price Walmart funds — until the next check.Held
It spots the funded products

Flashpricer reads Walmart's incentives for your channel every 15 minutes. As soon as a product gets a Walmart-funded discount — and its limit isn't known yet — a search starts.

It tests higher prices, step by step

Each test is a normal price update. A price is only counted as funded once Walmart has had time to apply it (up to 5 minutes), so a slow update is never mistaken for a "yes".

It backs off fast when Walmart says no

A refused price shows up on Walmart right away. The optimizer checks every minute and goes back to the last funded price at once, so your customers lose the discount for a minute or two at most.

It narrows down to the cent

Between the highest funded price and the first refused one, it tests halfway prices until the two are one cent apart — then settles on the highest funded one.

It keeps checking

Walmart's limit moves, so the optimizer re-checks it every night (between 1 and 5 AM US Eastern time, when it matters least). If Walmart stops funding a product during the day, it reacts right away instead of waiting for the night.

You stay in control

  • ↓
Never below your minimum. Whatever the mode, the optimizer never pushes a price under your item's minimum.
  • ↑
Above your maximum only if you allow it. Off by default. When you allow it, the optimizer still never goes beyond 1.5× the price it started from.
  • ⏱
Every search has a budget. At most 30 steps and 20 minutes without the discount in total. If the budget runs out, it settles on the best funded price found so far.
  • ↺
Your strategy steps aside, then takes over again. While the optimizer prices a product (during a search, or while Walmart funds it), your repricing strategy leaves that product alone. When Walmart no longer funds it, your strategy prices it again as usual.

Choose how far it can go

↑ Raise the price only

Raises your price as far as Walmart keeps funding the discount, and never goes below the price you had. If a product loses its funding, the optimizer puts your previous price back and lets your strategy take over.

Best to start with
↕ Raise and lower the price

Also lowers your price — never below your minimum — to reach Walmart's target and trigger the funded discount, or to get it back after Walmart moved its target down.

To win back lost funding

Set it up in two steps

Activate the add-on on your Walmart channel

Go to Settings → Billing, open Sales channel options, select Walmart Funded Savings Optimization on the Walmart channel(s) you want, and confirm. It's billed monthly, per Walmart channel.

Switch it on in your Walmart strategy

Open your strategy on the Strategies page, turn on Optimize Walmart Funded Savings, pick the mode (Raise the price only or Raise and lower the price), and choose whether to Allow prices above the maximum. Save — the optimizer starts on the funded products of that strategy within minutes.

✓

Works with Custom, Private Label and CH.AI strategies on Walmart. If a strategy also covers Walmart channels without the add-on, the setting is simply ignored there, and the strategy editor lists those channels.

!

The add-on is required. A strategy can't be saved with the optimization switched on if none of your Walmart channels has the add-on yet — the strategy editor links you straight to it.

Where you'll see it

  • 1
On the Products page. Funded products carry a Walmart Funded Savings badge under their price. Click it to see the latest price changes: the price Walmart shows, your price, what Walmart adds per sale, the highest funded price found and every test of each search, on a chart.
  • 2
With a filter. Use the Walmart Funded Savings (active) filter to list every product Walmart is funding right now.
  • 3
In the repricing history. Each test is a regular price update, labelled Walmart Funded Savings test, with the reason for every step.
  • 4
On your dashboard. If Walmart funds products on a channel that doesn't have the add-on yet, a card tells you how much is at stake.
i

No add-on yet? Funded products on that channel show a red Walmart Funded Savings badge. Click it to see the discount Walmart pays on that product and what a higher funded price would be worth on its sales — then activate the add-on in one click.

Frequently asked

Will my customers pay more?
No. While Walmart funds the discount, your customers see Walmart's funded price, whatever your price. The optimizer only raises your price while that stays true — and when a test goes too far, it goes back within a minute or two.
Can it hurt my sales or my Buy Box?
The price shoppers see doesn't change while Walmart funds the discount, so the Buy Box comparison doesn't either. The only exception is a refused test: the full price shows for a minute or two before the optimizer goes back. Each search is limited to 20 minutes without the discount in total, and usually takes far less.
Which products does it work on?
Your Walmart US products that Walmart includes in a Walmart-funded incentive, on channels with the add-on and on a strategy with the optimization switched on. You can list them with the Walmart Funded Savings (active) filter on the Products page.
What happens when Walmart stops funding a product?
The optimizer notices at the next check and looks for a funded price again (lower, never below your minimum, only in Raise and lower mode). If there is none, your previous price comes back and your repricing strategy takes over again.
How quickly will I see results?
A search usually takes 30 to 60 minutes per product, because Walmart can take up to 5 minutes to apply each price. The badge on the Products page shows each search as it runs.
How do I check what I was actually paid?
In Walmart Seller Center, go to Payments and search the order's PO number once it has shipped: you'll see the sale price, the Walmart-funded savings and your net payout.
How much does it cost?
It's a monthly add-on, billed per Walmart channel. You'll find the current price in Settings → Billing, under Sales channel options. On a single product, the extra paid by Walmart can cover it within the first month.
