Buy Box by State runs on credits. The model is simple: one credit per state, charged only when a state actually returns a result. Here's exactly how billing works, where credits come from, and how to buy more.

You only pay for results. Each state costs 1 credit, and it's billed only when that state returns a result. States that fail to fetch are free.

How billing works

  • 1 credit per state. A full 51-state scan costs 51 credits; a 5-state scan costs 5.
  • Only successful states are billed. If a state can't be fetched, it's not charged — you can re-run just those states for free later.
  • Charged as it runs. Credits are counted state by state during the scan — you see the running total live.
  • On an unlimited plan? Scans don't spend credits at all — you'll see an Unlimited scans badge instead of a balance.

Where your credits come from

Your balance at the top of the tab is a single pool made of two sources:

  • Plan credits — included with your subscription and refreshed each billing cycle.
  • Purchased credits — bought in packs (below). These never expire and pool with your plan credits.

Both sources spend from the same balance, so a scan simply draws from whatever you have. Purchased credits don't expire, so any top-up you buy stays available until you use it.

Buying credit packs

When you're running low, click Buy credits in the tab and pick a pack. Checkout is handled securely by Stripe, and the credits are added to your balance right after payment. Bigger packs cost less per scan.

Buy bigger, pay less per scan. Pricing is degressive — the entry pack works out to about $0.70 per full scan, the largest to around $0.25. And since packs never expire, stocking up is safe.

Do my credits expire?
Purchased pack credits never expire. Plan credits are included with your subscription and refreshed each billing cycle.
What if a scan fails part-way through?
You're only billed for the states that returned a result. Any state that failed to fetch costs nothing, and you can re-run just those.
How do I spend fewer credits?
Use Customize scan to run only the states you care about instead of all 51 — you're billed per state. See Run a per-state scan.
I have an unlimited plan — do I need credits?
No. On an unlimited plan, scans don't consume credits and there's nothing to buy — you'll see an Unlimited scans badge in the tab.
